What Home Means To Me

"Home is where memories are made.

Home is the heart.

Home is comforting.

Home is where you nourish and nurture.

Home is art.

Home is your sanctuary.

Home is your starting point and your destination."

- Robin Patrick-Miernicki, Habitat Homeowner

Three San Luis Obispo Families Receive Keys to New Habitat for Humanity Homes

Home Dedication Held on September 27th, 2013

Three San Luis Obispo County families received the keys to their new homes on Friday  in a dedication ceremony celebrating the completion of the latest homes built by Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County.  The new homeowners, the Espinoza, Flem and Patrick-Miernicki families, thanked all those who worked so hard to help them reach this goal.

Through donations of money, labor, materials, and volunteer labor, Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County has been able to build the homes and sell them at an affordable price. The families will purchase the homes with a no-interest loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to support Habitat’s work throughout the County. The Home Builders Association played a significant role in the completion of these houses as its members’ donated necessary labor and materials for all three homes.

County Supervisor Adam Hill and San Luis Obispo Vice-Mayor Kathy Smith spoke at the event, and the public was invited to tour the homes.  Supervisor Adam Hill observed, “I believe this is why Habitat for Humanity is so important.  It gathers up the compassion and cooperative energies of a community so that we can help families recognize and realize that sacred ideal of equal opportunity and literally capitalize on it.”

Julia K. Ogden, Habitat’s CEO, savored the day while looking ahead to new projects.  “We are so excited to have completed these new homes in the City of San Luis Obispo.  We are looking forward to doubling the number of SLO County Habitat homes with our upcoming projects in Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande.”
