Apply for Housing

Habitat for Humanity is building two homes in the City of San Luis Obispo. Families have been selected for these homes.  HFHSLOCO will re-open the application process when our next project is calendared.  Projected builds include a three home plan in San Luis Obispo 2010-11 at Rockview.

Family Selection Criteria Summary


Need for adequate shelter

  • Current shelter is inadequate due to physical condition.
  • Current shelter has inadequate number of rooms for family members (ages, sexes).
  • Family is unable to obtain home loan through other means.
  • Family income is no more than 50%, and no less than 25%, of median income for SLO County (See Tables below).

Ability to pay for Habitat home

  • Cash down payment of 0.5% of anticipated loan amount required.
  • Satisfactory credit history and references.
  • Household income must not be adversely affected by home ownership.
  • Must be a resident of SLO County for at least one year.
  • U.S. Citizenship or a permanent residency card.

Willingness to Partner with Habitat

  • Complete 500 hours of "sweat equity" for Habitat before occupancy and closing; a minimum of 150 direct sweat-equity hours is required for each adult (over 18 yrs) in the nuclear family; nuclear family is defined as those people who live in the house.
  • During occupancy, inside and outside of home and yard should be well maintained.
  • Participation in Habitat partnership program.
